The Phase One School Choice application for the 2026–2027 academic year will open on December 8, 2026, and close on February 12, 2027.

CVHS Magnet Tours

Campus tours will be offered every Thursday from November 5, 2026, through February 11, 2027, except during Thanksgiving Break and Winter Break. No tours will be held while the campus is closed for these holidays.

  • Tours dates and Times: 
    - Starting on November 5, 2026 until February 11, 2027 (Thursday)
    - Tours begin promptly at 1:00pm to 2:30pm. 

    Tours start right on time, so we ask that you arrive 5-10 minutes early to check in at the front office. Please note: Tours require advance sign-up.

Please be advised of the following changes to Gifted & Talented identification requirements within Houston Independent School District (HISD).

Acceptance of Previous G/T Identification Matrices

The 2026–2027 school year will be the final year in which previously completed G/T identification matrices will be accepted for G/T services across all HISD campuses. Previously completed HISD G/T identification matrices will be honored for enrollment during the current 2026–2027 school year at all HISD campuses to maintain a student's G/T identification status. Additionally, previously completed G/T identification matrices will be accepted for applications to a Vanguard campus through the School Choice application process for the 2027–2028 school year.

G/T Testing Eligibility

Effectively this school year, G/T testing administered by HISD will be available exclusively to students currently enrolled in an HISD school. HISD will no longer provide G/T testing for students who are not actively enrolled in an HISD campus.

Action Required

Families are strongly encouraged to review their student's G/T identification status and School Choice application timelines accordingly. For questions regarding G/T eligibility, please contact your campus's Magnet & G/T Coordinator.

Students must meet all three of the following criteria to apply:

  1. Gifted and Talented Identification
    Be identified as Gifted and Talented (GT) by Houston ISD.
  2. Magnet Matrix Score
    Earn a score of 80 or higher on the Magnet Matrix.
  3. Residency
    Live within Houston ISD boundaries.

  • 9th grade
  • 10th grade​

  • Lottery notification date: March 17, 2027
  • Where to view results: School Choice dashboard
  • Phase One offer acceptance deadline: March 23, 2027

  • Phase Two application opens: March 17, 2027
  • Offer acceptance deadline: Five calendar days from the offer date
  • Phase Two application closes: One week before the first day of school
