Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) recruits parents and community partners to support HISD's goal of increasing student achievement. Volunteers help with mentoring, tutoring, fundraising, career education, enrichment programs, extracurricular and community service activities, and office/classroom assistance.

After registering online, completing orientation, and undergoing the annual background check, volunteers can serve in any HISD school for the year. Schools can track volunteer hours by establishing an online VIPS account.
